Details of the County Standard
This is a clear standard with some interesting symbolism.
The hoist is divided per
pale (vertically)Azure a trefoil Or for Guiding, Or
a lion passant guardant Gules armed and langued Azure,
the County badge of Surrey. The lion derives from the
Arms of Eleanor of Castille, wife of Edward 1 and so
was contained in the Arms of their grand-daughter Joan
de Barre who married in 1306 John de Warenne, Earl of
Surrey.

colours of the Movement, Azure lettered Or.
The fly, divided by three
bars dancetty Azure, Argent, Azure with seven points
representing the Seven Hills of Surrey - Box, Colley,
Juniper, Leith, Pebble, Reigate and White.
In chief
a swan Proper for Leatherhead from the town coat of
arms showing the strong links with London; (Leatherhead
Division)
a castle gateway Proper, between the bases of the towers
REI Gules meaning water, from the town coat of arms;
(Reigate Division)
a horse Sable from Epsom showing links with the Derby
which is run on Epsom Downs (Epsom Division)
In base
on a mound Vert a tower Proper representing the tower
build on Leith Hill, the highest point in South East
England; (Leith Hill Division)
a woolsack Proper representing sheep rearing and wool
production in Banstead which provided the wool for the
first Woolsack used in the House of Lords; (Banstead
Division) behind a churn
a wheatstalk and shepherds crook Proper in saltire for
the predominant occupations in the area. (Godstone Division)
The border is a twisted cord in the livery colours of the Movement.
Issue 1 was produced with a dark blue background
Issue 2 of 500 badges was produced on 1 November 2004
with a red background and overlocking
