Bookworm Bookmarks

These super little bookmarks are easy to make from scraps of fun foam and cardboard. With four designs to choose from, why not make a whole family in your favourite colours?

You will need

  • Sheets of foam in two or more different colours
  • Beige foam for the head
  • Googly eyes
  • A piece of card at least 19cm x 3cm
  • Clear glue
  • Scissors
  • A coloured stick-on gem or sequin for the bow or flower (optional)
  • Pencil or pen

Tips

  • Cereal boxes are an ideal source of cardboard for backing your bookmarks.
  • Why not try adding scraps of wool for hair, or different styles of hat.
  • If your bookmark starts to curl up, place it under a heavy book overnight.

To make

  1. Trace the body template onto thin card and cut out. Cut the head from beige foam, and four body segments from each of the two colours of foam.
  2. Beginning at the tail end, stick alternate coloured body segments onto the card using a thin layer of glue. Add the head in the same way.
  3. Choose a template for your bookmark's head and cut from a colour of your choice. For the bow or flower stick a sequin to the centre. For the football add the detail with a black pen.
  4. Attach to the head with a thin layer of glue and then stick the eyes on in the same way. Put aside on a flat surface until the glue has dried.
