Craft Suppliers

These are a few craft suppliers that have been found useful.

Baker Ross    Well known and well used amongst Girlguiding generally, and as a result not only are there quantity discounts on offer but also you can use your appointment card number to get a further 10% off.

Have a look at their website if you don't already get one of the numerous catalogues they send out. And if you want to do a bit of fund raising, have a look at their Yellow Moon 'branch' which lets you sell their craft at about 10% extra to parents, and keep the extra for unit funds.

Crafty Kids     These people specialise in kits, especially based around puppets etc. Crafty Kids is run by Sarah Gunn and Sally Preisig - puppet maker and puppeteer for TV shows including; Tweenies, The Shiny Show, Bits & Bobs , Playdays, Wide Eye, MacDonalds Farm and Fun Song Factory.
Their Puppet Kits and Craft Kits are completely hand made and contain everything you need to make your chosen craft yourself including; full instructions, templates and all the materials including paint, paintbrush and glue!

They have all sorts of puppets and crafts from cats, dogs, horses, dragons and knights to desk tidies and money monsters! ...and much more! They offer to come to you and run your Crafty Kids Party or you can run your own Crafty Kids Party with their Crafty Kids Party Packs delivered straight to your door - anywhere in the UK! Have a look at their website for some good kits.

Fred Aldous    Fred Aldous has been around since 1886 and is the grand-daddy of craft suppliers. The new website is much better than past versions - more colourful and much better laid out.

If you've ever been to the shop in Machester you'll know what an Aladdin's cave their place is - having it in a basement helps the illusion! If there's something in craft you really need then this is the place to look - and if you don't know what it's called the staff there are very good at knowing what a 'bent wire with a feather at one end' is really called, or how to create the look you're after from the materials they have!

Hobbycraft    Now have an online presence for coloured and patterened beads - as well as most everything else you can find in their stores.

S & S    In our experience delivery is not as fast as it could be from these people (despite the claim on their website), but perhaps that's more a comment on the 'instant gratification' so much in demand these days. Just don't order something you absolutely need for next week! Get the catalogue - it's well worth a browse for kits as well as basic materials. Their website is not too intuitive to find but reasonably well laid out with online ordering.

Smitkits    Used to be known as Smitcraft but now changed to Smiley Kits, have a look at their bright new website for some stunning ideas. Products are good quality and the range of kits etc is wide.

Specifically for Beaded Pin craft (but also general craft)

Beadsdirect    sells Round Seed (Toho) beads - 1.5mm usually fits on pins; also sells larger beads often called Pony Beads.

First4Numbers    They focus on supplies for races, marathons etc, and sell safety pins in various sizes in large boxes.

Pinz    Supplier of plain coilless pins. If you get these it saves having to open the end of the main pin when making beaded pin badges.

Craft Depot    Vast array of craft goodies in a well laid out website, with quantity discounts. Good range of coil-less safety pins for beaded pin work.
