As DC you should be aware of all the camps and holidays being run by Units in the District. You are aware of the skills and qualifications of your Leaders and play an important role in maintaining the standards and safety of events. The guidance notes are to help you in your role, and in the main are extracted from publications such as the Guiding Manual (chapter 9 page 177 or online at www.girlguiding.org.uk) or the new series Going away . There is more detail in the Manual and these notes are not a replacement for the Manual.
The notes describe the main points to consider with license holders planning events, and then detail the procedures for those wanting to gain licenses or other qualifications.
Remember that the Pack Holiday and Camp teams are there to help with queries.
Leaders should tell you of their plans as soon as they are booked, not when the application for permission to camp A/A form arrives or the day before the unit goes away. In practice, this is easily achieved through a standing item on the agenda of your District meeting.
