Pets at Home

Brownies in Pets at HomeTonight for our meeting we met at 'Pets at Home' in Redhill. One of our Mums saw a group of Beavers being shown around whilst she was in there buying pet food and requested some info for us. The staff were very accommodating and very helpful when I called to book.

We were shown around the store by a very knowledgeable Dawn who happens to be Barn Owl at a local Brownie Unit - she let the girls hold one of their rabbits, they then met a guinea pig. We were supposed to be introduced to the rats but they proved to be very agile when being caught so declined our offer. She then bought out a Degu which we all agreed looked much like a squirrel - he was very soft but very shy, so she kept a tight hold as our Brownies each felt his fur.

We then moved onto a bearded dragon and even our Young Leaders had a hold - not too keen mind. The Brownies all agreed he definitely was much cuter than he looked and felt very strange - next was a very shy Leopard Gecko.

Dawn explained to our Brownies about each of the animals natural habitats, how they buy them, how they are looked after and what they eat - the girls did notice the likeness of the grubs to 'I'm a celebrity, get me out of here'.

We finished by the fish and the Brownies each fired off questions to end our visit. All had a brilliant time thanks to Dawn and her love of all animals. The girls were each given a 'Group Tour' leaflet to take home, as we would not have had enough time to fill out whilst walking round.

I will put this outing toward our Friends to Animals badge.
