1st Epsom (St Martins) Brownies first met on 7th October 1918. We initially met in the Parish Room (Church House) of St Martins Church on a Friday afternoon 15:00 – 16:30. This was reported in the Church magazine in October 1922.
We then moved to the current site in 1953 at The Scout & Guide HQ in Epsom, Church Road, Epsom. A new hut was built around the existing hut, with work starting in 1962 and completed in 1966 (the work was completed by volunteers).
We now meet on a Tuesday at 17:45 – 19:15
Therefore, as you can imagine the hut is self-funding and it’s heating system is part of the 1966 build. So, before it completely gives up the ghost we would like to do our bit to raise funds towards a new system, which will hopefully see us through the next 50 years or so. So, all monies raised from the sale of these badges will go towards the heating fund
We would like to use this special year for our Brownie Unit by all of us thinking about what it means to be part of the UK’s largest girl-only youth organisation. Especially as we also celebrate the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the UK. This is particularly poignant with Epsom’s connection to Emily Davison.
Therefore, we have set a number of challenges which have all been given a number of points. Can you complete enough challenges to gain 100 points and achieve our special badge? Good Luck!
