Isles of Scilly Environmental Adventure 2020
19th August - 28th August
Isles of Scilly
Environmental Adventure 2020
19-28 August 2020
This opportunity is open to Guides, Rangers, SS or YLs who have confidence to be away from home and can carry their own luggage.
Join us on an exciting adventure to the Isles of Scilly, exploring one of the more remote areas of the UK.
You will have the opportunity to experience island life and to join in lots of environmental activities and much much more.
We hope to involve marine wildlife experts, watch seals lazing on the beaches and see them swimming in the water. Learn to identity seabirds such as guillemots, fulmar, razorbills and gannets. Rock pooling and beach combing to find the small things that make the seashore so fascinating. If you are lucky you may get to see other cetaceans such as porpoise and dolphins.
The adventure will be as environmentally friendly as possible. Transport on the islands is mainly by walking, boats and maybe the odd bicycle. We hope to be able to arrange for you to take part in helping to care for this unique environment by taking part in conservation projects and activities.
We will be staying on St Mary’s at Longstone Lodge but will be visiting other islands and you will be able to experience the setting for many of Michael Morpurgo’s books including Why the Whales Came and hopefully visit Bryher where he did a lot of his writing.
Travel will be by overnight train or coach and then by the Scillonian passenger ferry from Penzance. All food will be provided.
If you are interested please contact Cathy McDonough on firstname.lastname@example.org
A deposit of £175 will be payable by 15 May 2019 and the remainder of the cost will be payable in further instalments over the next 12 months. Full payment will be needed by 1 May 2020.
Over half the place on the Isle of Scilly Environmental Adventure 2020 have already been booked. Please advertise to your Guides, Rangers and Young leaders so they do not miss out on this opportunity. If you have young leaders helping in your unit who are no longer Guides or Rangers they are still welcome to join us. Leaders do not have to come with their girls
