The RSPB wants to create stronger connections between people and nature, including giving experiences to children that engage and inspire them to take action for nature. The RSPB has worked in partnership with Girlguiding LaSER since 2015,increasing opportunities for girls to interact with and learn about nature and was initially formed because of a shared concern over children becoming more distanced from nature. This training has been developed by the RSPB in collaboration with Girlguiding LaSER Trainers. The training aims to build the confidence of leaders to take girls outdoors to discover, explore, enjoy and help nature, and, as a result of completing the training, leaders will feel comfortable delivering an increased number of activities in and for nature in their programmes. The training introduces a range of activities that enhance the ‘have adventure’ and take action’ elements of the Girlguiding programme and which are appropriate for the different sections.
Aim: To build the confidence of Girlguiding volunteers to take children and young people outdoors to discover, explore, enjoy and help nature so that they deliver an increased number of activities in and for nature in their programmes.
Developed their practical skills to build more nature-based sessions into their regular programme planning.
Increased motivation for the importance and value of deepening young people’s love of nature through a combination of hands on experiences and taking actions to benefit the natural world so that girls become champions for nature and drive change.
Increased awareness of the threats to nature and the positive actions which Leaders can inspire girls to take, as part of the wider nature movement.
Be inspired to build on the ‘take action’ and ‘adventure’ elements of the Girlguiding programme to create more meaningful experiences and a greater benefit for young people
