As you may be aware, Sonia and Emma will be stepping down as joint Division Commissioners for Reigate next term having completed the extended term of 5 years in the role.  I would like to thank them for all they have done to develop Reigate division through a significant change period which has included the covid pandemic and the associated impact this has had on volunteering more widely.   They should be very proud of all that they have achieved.

Reigate division includes the districts of Merstham, Horley East, Horley West, Redhill and Reigate Park.  Becoming a commissioner enables you to influence guiding in your local area in a role supporting volunteers. The division commissioner is also a key member of the county executive committee who meet 3-4 times per year.

The main skills needed in the role are good people skills, being organised, able to lead a team, and being able to encourage and inspire others.  The role can be shared as Sonia and Emma have done and includes developing your own supporting team to share the responsibility too.   Being a commissioner gives you the opportunity to engage with teams across the county, the local community, meet new people, work together and have fun!  Here is the job description for the role which explains it more fully.

In addition, to the support that Sonia and Emma can provide, commissioner training and the support of a mentor from county is available once you are in post.  The value of having someone in this role with their local understanding providing the vital link between the units/districts and the county cannot be underestimated.

Your help needed – Please consider who in your area has these skills and could undertake the role with success. The new Division Commissioner(s) is appointed by the county commissioner.   If you would like to find out more about the role please do contact surreyeastcc@btinternet.com.
